I enjoy historical landmarks. I believe they are so important to our personal pasts and our world's history and we should take great steps to preserve them. The story goes that a Chumash Indian village once lived here, at this site (where this mound and plaque are placed) and many years later the site was excavated and over 2500 objects were recovered. It has yielded some of the most important archeological evidence found in California. The objects from that excavation are at the National Museum of the American Indian. There isn't much to see at this location but you can read the plaque on the mound and pay your respects. There is a big grassy area called Ambassador Park and I believe it is intended to be left that way.
