### A Brief History of Aston Martin
The original company, Lionel Martin Ltd., created the first Aston Martin vehicles in 1913. Lionel Martin was inspired by the success of hill climb racing at Aston Hill and initially made lightweight, high-performance sports cars. The early models were later refined into grand tourers with elegant styling and potent engines. The Aston Martin name became part of David Brown & Sons, also known as DB, in 1947, to market the line to more desirable audiences. In the 1950s, the engineering team was inspired by the success of the Jaguar C-Type and Ferrari 250 GT, so they developed the DB4 and later the iconic DB5. The DB5 became a retronym brand symbol for British sophistication and released the first true modern Aston Martin in 1963. In 1981, Aston Martin became its own company and broke off its partnership with Ford’s earlier developmental support. However, beginning in the 1990s, Aston Martin underwent several new ownerships, starting with Ford in 1987. Then, Ford sold off Aston Martin to a consortium led by Prodrive in 2007. That group then sold the Aston Martin brand to Geely, a British-Belgian automotive manufacturer, in 2020.
Aston Martins were created as a harmonious blend of performance and luxury. As they became more popular, the model started to move upscale into the elite luxury brand it is today. To this day, Aston Martins still stand out on the roads of Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Pasadena, Long Beach, and beyond.
